+Well, I don’t really know either. This little site here only started recently, I’m hosting the thing by myself (because I feel like it!), and in addition to the firewall I also have a few other tools running to secure my little server. The statistics about what unpleasant, unnecessary, and dangerous traffic the Internet is already sending my way are pretty astonishing.

+Crawlers that blindly scour the Internet for broken WordPress installations, look for abandoned backups and .env files, etc., are probably the more harmless ones. What I find remarkable is just how much money is burned because of this – even if traffic is relatively cheap, it’s the sheer volume of all these different requests that surprises me.

+Anyway, on firewall level, all of them get an automatic ban for a few hours, which increases by further hours if they show up again.
